Your Visit Starts With a Conversation
Your appointment usually begins with questions about your legs and overall health. You may be asked when your concerns started, whether your legs feel worse after standing or sitting, whether elevation helps, and if you have a history of blood clots, vein disease, pregnancy, injuries, or prior vein treatment.
These details help us understand whether your concerns are vein-related or if another cause should be considered. Dr. Jones may also review your medications, family history, and other health factors that could contribute to swelling, aching, or circulation changes.
The Physical Exam Helps Guide Next Steps
During the exam, we may check your legs for visible varicose veins, swelling, skin changes, tenderness, or other signs of venous disease. A careful evaluation can also help identify concerns that may overlap with vein-related discomfort.
The exam gives our team a clearer picture of whether vein disease may be involved and what testing, if any, should come next.
How Diagnostic Ultrasound Fits Into the Visit
If your symptoms suggest a vein condition, diagnostic ultrasound may be recommended. Ultrasound uses sound waves to create real-time images of your veins. It can help identify venous reflux, blood clots, varicose veins, blocked or narrowed veins, and other concerns.
The test is non-invasive, and you can return to normal activities afterward. You may be asked to change positions during the scan so the technician can see how blood moves through your leg veins.
Planning Treatment Based on Your Results
Your next steps depend on what the exam and ultrasound show. Some patients may benefit from lifestyle changes or compression stockings, while others may be candidates for procedures that treat varicose veins or underlying venous insufficiency.
